Superstitious Nonsense

Had some fun with this…

Tammy’s Cakes are renowned across the State, not only for taste, but also good luck. There are even rumours that the words she writes on each cake will come true, which of course is all superstition, but it’s good for business. Suzie is the owner, although she has always used her middle name Tammy, or Tubby, as she was known in High School.

This morning, Suzie has been up since 5am finishing the tiered dark chocolate ganache for this evening’s engagement party. She sprinkles white chocolate shavings amid a ring of juicy raspberries, before writing the words, ‘Suzie and Carl, the happy couple!’ with a piping bag.
Taking a step back, she smiles at her creation.

Suzie doesn’t usually attend events, disliking large crowds, but today is special, and she is wearing her favourite red dress to mark the occasion.
This has been two years in the making.

When the cake is revealed, there is a collective gasp, and she smiles coyly, knowing that it is her best creation yet. As the couple approach, their eyes dart to each other and then Suzie in confusion, quickly replaced with venom.
‘Tubby, you’ve spelt my name wrong! It should be with an s,’ she bleats.
Suzie gives her an apologetic look, ‘oh gosh, I’m so sorry! Shall I take it away and make a new one?’
‘No, it’s too late now’ she growls, dismissing Suzie with a flick of the wrist.

Suzie chuckles to herself as the cake is cut into slices and handed out to the guests. This truly is sweet revenge! And anyway, she is only taking back what is rightfully hers.
Biting into her slice of cake, she glances over at Carl.
The moment their eyes meet, she smiles…
