Suitcases

Homework: Flash Fiction piece of no more than 150 words, including a suitcase.
I came up with this story. It was my first attempt at flash fiction, and I quite enjoyed the limited word count.

This has gone horribly wrong…

I try to breathe silently, but I can hear my heartbeat like it is pressed up to my ear, thumping erratically with fear. It is almost a comfort to hear his heart pounding with just as much wild abandon beside me.

We are crouched in a dank and dusty cupboard in the study of the main house, our fingers interlinked. I peer cautiously between the slats of wood, out into the room. The lights are off, deliberately. Moonlight spilling in through the skylight illuminates our abandoned suitcases beside the door.

I look back at him, and in the darkness I can just make out the outline of his face. He turns towards me and cups my cheek.

He can sense my fear and the kiss he plants on my lips eases the knot in my stomach, if just for a moment.
